Dr. Hohendorf is a 1975 graduate of Illinois College of Optometry where
he participated in an intensified vision
therapy internship under the tutelage of Drs Coleman Hatfield and
Leo Manas. He practiced in the Grand
Rapids MI suburb of Kentwood in a full scope practice (South Kent
Vision Center) until 2003 when he moved to
another suburb, Wyoming, and established a visual therapy referral
practice within the multi-specialty clinic,
he co-founded, called The Vision and Sensory Center.
He was a three-year president of the West Michigan Optometric Association
and a chairman of the Michigan
Optometric Associations Vision Therapy Committee. He serves his
community with membership in the Wyoming (MI)
Lions Club. He is currently on the board of the State of MI Project
Kidsight (photo screening for infant and toddlers)
and is the regional Chairman of the International Campaign Sight
First II project. He has also served on the boards
of the local Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the
Kent County Board of Head Start as its president
from 1993-1994.He has also been a consultant to several local
schools and the local professional basketball team
the Grand Rapids Hoops.
He has been married to Susan since 1969 and has two children, Chad and
Jenni, who have grown into responsible
adults. His current activities include local, statewide, and
international speaking on vision and learning. His hobbies
are golf, horticulture and stamp collecting.
Current memberships are; state director of the Michigan Optometric
Extension Program, Chairman of the
Optometric Extension Programs Curriculum Development Committee, An
associate member of COVD, OEPF Michigan
Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and was a
founding board member of the Baltimore
Academy of Behavioral Optometry.
In his position as the chair of the Curriculum Development Committee of
the OEP he oversees and helps develop
the continued excellence of all of OEP's lecture educational
offerings. He is also responsible for direct over sight of
the OEP speaker development committee and the current Regional
Clinical Seminar (RCS) program.
